We were approached by local builders Gaskin Builders, acting on behalf of their client Mr. Williams, who was undertaking the renovation of The Reading Room in Alby. After reviewing the plans, it was immediately clear that this was a unique and inspiring project we couldn’t resist being part of. Mr. Williams aimed to restore the 17th-century building and transform it into an intimate wedding venue nestled in the heart of the North Norfolk countryside.
Once a gathering place for locals to access books and learning—much like a modern-day public library—The Reading Room held a rich history and undeniable charm. This project set out to breathe new life into the building and its surrounding woodlands, ensuring its legacy would live on as a beautiful and enchanting wedding venue, scheduled to open in 2017.
Given the historical significance of The Reading Room, it was essential to preserve its original gothic features while integrating modern design and security standards. We collaborated closely with Gaskin Builders, Mr. Williams, and North Norfolk Council to design and manufacture a range of bespoke arched windows that honoured the building’s character and heritage.
Our state-of-the-art CNC machinery allowed us to produce uniquely detailed components, replicating the aesthetic of the original structure with exceptional precision. Each oak window was constructed in sections using advanced Italian software to ensure millimetre-perfect accuracy. To enhance their visual appeal and durability, we applied Wicker and Cypress stains using our Teknos spray system—creating a warm, welcoming, and elegant finish that complements the venue’s historic ambiance.
The completed joinery work at The Reading Room truly captures the spirit and romance of the venue. The new windows flood the space with natural light, providing breathtaking views of the surrounding gardens and creating a magical atmosphere for couples and their guests.
This project has been a standout for our team—one that beautifully showcases the blend of craftsmanship, technology, and heritage preservation. We’re incredibly proud to have contributed to bringing this fairy-tale location back to life and look forward to seeing it filled with celebrations and memories for years to come
